Navigate the Size Maze in Baby Clothing

Baby clothing sizes are as consistent as women's jeans sizing—which is to say, not at all. Here's the reality: some newborn clothes fit babies up to 8 pounds, others work up to 14. The labels rarely mention length, so if you have a long, skinny baby like I have, you might need to size up early.

When you find something that fits well, lay it on top of every similar item regardless of the size on the label. I had 0-3 month onesies that were identical in size to 9-month pieces from different brands. Also crucial: "0-3 month" clothing is NOT the same as "Newborn" size clothing. This rookie mistake left me with plenty of cute outfits for a 3-month-old and nothing that fit my 7-pound newborn.

Don't let the clothing chaos derail you—focus on basics and adjust as you learn your baby's specific proportions.
